Who We Are

We would like to extend a very warm welcome to you.

We are the Protestant Reformed Fellowship of Fayetteville, which exists by the grace of God. We strive to thank God always for everything He has given us.

Our Lord Jesus Christ Almighty, after He arose from the dead, gave to His church the great commission: "Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost" (Matthew 28:19). We strive to fufill that calling He has commanded us.

The members of our group represent various walks of life. That which unites us is our faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and a strong commitment to God's Word.

The contents of our common faith is that which is described in the name of our denomination

The Protestant Reformed Churches have their beginnings in 1924. However, they trace their spiritual lineage back to the apostles, whose doctrine is the foundation of the Christian church with Jesus Christ as the chief cornerstone (Eph. 2:20). The word "Protestant" in the name " Protestant Reformed" indicates a close adherence to the great Protestant Reformation of the 16th century. At that time the Protestant churches separated from the Roman Catholic Church in order to preserve the truth of the Word of God, as that truth had been brought to light especially through the labors of Martin Luther and John Calvin. The God-centered theology of the Reformation spread and developed in Europe with a power which can be attributed only to God. In the Low Countries this theology was systematized in three creeds, which became known as the Three Forms of Unity of the Reformed churches: The Belgic Confession (1561), the Heidelberg Catechism (1562), and the Canons of Dordt (1618-19). It is upon the basis of God's Word as interpreted by these creeds that the Protestant Reformed Churches stand. These creeds, which are the confession of the Reformed churches of the past, are the spiritual heritage of the Protestant Reformed denomination.

We believe these creeds accurately state the gospel of God revealed in the Bible.

What We Believe

The Bible is the Word of God, inspired by the Holy Spirit and without error (2 Peter 1:19-21). All it teaches is to be believed, all it commands is to be obeyed, and all it promises is to be trusted (2 Tim 3:16).

God is a triune God; God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit (Matthew 28:10). He created the world and all it contains in six 24-hour days (Exodus 20:11). The ultimate purpose of God's creation is the revelation of His glory (Proverbs 16:4).

God is sovereign. By His power and wisdom He upholds and governs the world, and directs it according to His good pleasure (Psalm 115:3). He rules over all in heaven and on earth, over the devil and all the angels (1 Peter 3:22).

God is also sovereign in salvation (Hebrews 12: 2). We, who are born dead in sin and guilty before God, are saved by the grace of God (Ephesians 2:1-9). He has chosen a people from eternity to be saved in the blood of Christ (Ephesians 1:4-5). He regenerates our hard hearts through the Holy Spirit (John 3:3-8). He gives us faith to believe the gospel (Ephesians 2:8-9). He continues this saving work by giving us daily the grace to serve Him in all of our life (2 Peter 1:2). He preserves us in our salvation ( John 10:27-29).

God demonstrates His love in the cross of Jesus Christ (Romans 5:8). The Son of God in human flesh paid for the sins of His people, arose from the dead and now reigns in heaven (Romans 8:11, 1Timothy 3:16).

Jesus is coming again to be the Judge of the living and dead ( 2 Timothy 4:1). Those who believe in Him will dwell with Him forever in heaven; and those who do not believe in Him will suffer God's just and eternal wrath in hell (Revelations 20:11-15).

How We Worship

God is worthy of all praise (Psalm 95:6). He commands everyone to worship Him (Psalm 96:9). Therefore, we gather together to render to Him the praise of our hearts and to be instructed in His Word. We worship out of love and thankfulness for the great gift of salvation in His Son.

We worship as He has commanded in the Bible (Psalm 29:2). We believe Sunday is a day set apart from all other days. On this day we gather twice in formal, public worship. These services are conducted with reverence, in the historical, Reformed way, which reflects our consciousness of being in the presence of the Almighty God. Central in every service is the preaching of God's Word. The preaching is the chief means by which God gives grace the His people, and calls us to constant repentance and faith in Jesus Christ ( 1 Corinthians 1: 8-21). Believing the KJV to be the best available English translation of the Bible, we use this version in the worship services. In our formal worship services we sing versifications of the 150 Psalms from our Psalter.

Our children worship God with us. Jesus blesses the children of the parents who bring them to Him

( Mark 10:13-16). Central to the calling to instruct our children in the fear of the Lord (Ephesians 6:4) is to have them with us under the preaching. The Holy Spirit uses the pure preaching of God's Word to save us and our children ( Acts 2:39). Thus God strengthens us in His grace and knowledge ( 2 Peter 3:18).

-----------------------

What is your comfort in your life? Is it your job, family, money, or friends? Will any of your comforts on this earth aid you when you die? Do you have the assurance that you will live together with God in glory forever? If your don't know the answers to these questions, we would encourage you to come worship with us. Only the wise God can save us from our sins.

"Now unto Him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of His glory with exceeding joy, To the only wise God our Saviour, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and ever. AMEN." (Jude 24-25)

A Quote from one of our Creeds

Throughout the ages, both adults and children of the Reformed Faith have come to learn and love the truths found in Lord's Day 1 of the Heidelberg Catechism.

Question 1. What is thy only comfort in life and death?

Answer. That I with body and soul, both in life and death, am not my own, but belong unto my faithful Savior Jesus Christ; who, with his precious blood, hath fully satisfied for all my sins, and delivered me from all the power of the devil; and so preserves me that without the will of my heavenly Father, not a hair can fall from my head; yea, that all things must be subservient to my salvation, and therefore, by his Holy Spirit, he also assures me of eternal life, and makes me sincerely willing and ready, henceforth, to live unto him.

Question 2. How many things are necessary for thee to know, that thou, enjoying this comfort, mayest live and die happily?

Answer. Three; the first, how great my sins and miseries are; the second, how I may be delivered from all my sins and miseries; the third, how I shall express my gratitude to God for such deliverance.
